Beauty Beneath the Mess

Have you ever just had a day where you felt like you were set up for failure from the beginning?  That was me a few weeks ago.  I sometimes struggle with the balance of working well and parenting well, especially when doing both at the same time.  By the time we packed up to head to the mountains to continue with our family tradition of picking out our Christmas tree, I broke down in tears.  Sobbing hysterically, I dreaded being a parent to the toddler I have been blessed with, and for the life of me couldn’t fathom the thought of bringing another soul into the world in just a few short weeks.  After spouting off “I don’t know what I’m doing being a mother” to my husband and storming upstairs to clean the playroom, I wept uncontrollably.  Our toddler had not been the easiest that day and I really struggled to manage the right amount of balance to meet the demands of my job, thus causing me to fail at performing well as an employee and most importantly, as a mom.  Failure can seem like the most daunting thing in the world… especially when you step away and re-evaluate how poorly your time and emotions actually conquered you in the process.

As I’ve reflected on the past few days, my sweet boy has been nothing but amazing.  Friday was hard, but that night when he got sick I wanted nothing more than to squeeze and comfort him.  And wearing that pile of vomit like a champ, I was able to be his mommy and embrace the goodness of the child he is, while also reflecting on the fact that my day really wasn’t that awful after all.

I don’t know about you, but I love the fresh outlook on life and how we often need to be redirected back to it.  Life has a way of getting to us, especially during extreme challenging moments.  I just thank God that He brings me back to the beauty beneath the mess.

Stay strong mommy, you're beautiful and doing a wonderful job even when it doesn't seem like it.

And on a side note, how cute is that teepee from Tnee's!?  It's the perfect hideaway for my little guy and he loves his new "tent."  Be sure to check her out at tnees.com
